Based on the results of our research TERRA-TORY, we designed and developed a series of water jugs.
The coloured bodies are shaped from clay sourced locally in Nijmegen. The object's function, a jug for water, is a nod to the river that crosses the city, along whose banks we found the clay.
Fired at different temperatures, the carafe reveals the remarkable range of colours found in the local clays. A Terra Sigillata finish (old technique), applied to the outside, creates a protective layer. Its shapes draw on ancient Roman styles, echoing the city's origins as an early settlement with a long history of clay production.
