We researched Nijmegen’s river clays to find their aesthetic qualities and technical behavior, fired at different temperatures.

The project started by looking into ways to extract and process Nijmegen's local earth, which will be soon covered by habitation. Inspired by the "terra sigillata" technique, practiced in ancient Rome, we use the finest particles of different clays in different ways. As a body or as a coating.

We organised our investigation using samples with a shape influenced by Roman wares. Through a system of classification, we can easily identify each sample and reproduce the colors for the final collection.
